Hajj Eid, Chicken Meat Prices in Temanggung Skyrocketed

Like the price of domestic chicken seen at the Kliwon Rejo Amertani market complex, Temanggung, Central Java, which rose to IDR 8,000 per kilo, Friday, May 26 2023.

Temanggung, Beritasatu.com – Entering the Hajj season in 2023 has had an impact on the soaring prices of a number of people’s basic needs (kepokmas). Like the price of domestic chicken seen at the Kliwon Rejo Amertani market complex, Temanggung, Central Java, which has risen to Rp 8,000 per kilo. For this increase, traders claimed to have experienced a decrease in turnover of up to 50 percent.

The increase in meat prices has been felt by traders since the last ten days. Previously sold at RP 32,000, now it is RP 40,000 per kilogram, or an increase of RP 8,000.

“The average price is 38,000 rupiah, some sell chicken for 40,000, but only a few people have started to increase since the last ten days. Previously it was sold between RP 32,000 – RP 33,000. The supply is very easy and smooth. ” said Ririn Rofiah, a chicken meat seller when met Friday (26/5/2023).

The traders said they did not know exactly the main reason for the increase in meat prices. However, they said, the increase in meat prices had occurred at the level of slaughterhouses and breeders plus entering the current Hajj Eid. With this increase, traders admit that they have experienced a decrease in turnover, because residents only dare to buy meat in small quantities.

“The effect is certain, because food vendors, such as meatballs, satay, don’t go down at that price, so many take a break from selling and many buyers buy in small quantities. With this price increase, sales are reduced by 50 percent. For example, every day they can spend as much as 40 or 50 kilograms of meat, now they are only able to sell 20 kilograms,” he added.
