Students from the Coalition Against Violence, Human Rights Violations and Police Reform (KOMPAK) banged on the NTB Regional Police, Tuesday (22/11/2022).

Mataram, katada.id – Students from the Coalition Against Violence, Human Rights Violations and Police Reform (KOMPAK) banged on the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (NTB), Tuesday (22/11/2022). They demanded accountability from the NTB Regional Police Chief Inspector General. Djokopoerwanto and Bima Regent Hj. Indah Dhamayanti Putri for the death of Muardin.

For information, Muardin died during the Pilkades Rite, Ambalawi District, Bima Regency, NTB. He died in a state of severe head injuries, 7 July 2022.

Until now, the cause of Muradin’s death is still a mystery. There is no bright spot in the handling of the case at the Bima Kota Police.

Field Coordinator (Korlap) Muksin explained that during the vote count there was a riot. As a result, the victim Muardin was seriously injured and was rushed to the Bima Hospital. “The victim was declared dead on July 9,” he explained in his oration.

He suspects that Muardin’s death was caused by tear gas from the Bima City Police, who were tasked with securing the Pilkades in Rite Village. Now Muardin leaves behind a wife and three children. “The Bima City Police and the Bima Regency Government have absolutely no condolences to the family of the deceased. Moreover, apologize and provide compensation, “he said.

Another orator, Almuhajirin said, it was not empathy that the Muardin family got, but there were attempts to block them from getting justice. “For the sake of law, human rights and justice for the Muardin family, the NTB Regional Police Chief and the Bima Regent must be legally, morally and materially responsible for the Muardin family. The West Nusa Tenggara Police Chief and the Bima Regent will immediately leave their positions if justice cannot resolve the Muardin case,” he shouted.

General Coordinator Satria Madisa stated that the overall reform of the National Police is an agenda that determines the existence of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. According to him, what Muardin and his family experienced was just an iceberg phenomenon, how equality before law and justice is just a dead text that cannot be found in facts.

“The government and DPR RI must have the courage to explore the contents of the anatomy of the Polri body. We must clean up the National Police from abuse, abuse of office, violence, crimes and indications of human rights violations. Polri is the main pillar of a rule of law state that must be reformed, in order to save democracy in our rule of law country, “he said in reading out the statement of action.

Satria explained that so far the National Police has become a fertile ground for abuse, violence and human rights violations. Quoting the KontraS report, in the period from 2019 to 2021 alone there have been thousands of incidents of violence and human rights violations that were allegedly committed by the Police.

“The legal engineering case that occurred in Duren Tiga by Inspector General Ferdy Sambo should open our eyes, it is dangerous for the National Police if it is filled with problematic human resources. This confirms the urgency of a major restoration of the National Police through reform, to restore public trust which has greatly decreased in the police.

This Unram Faculty of Law alumnus added, all human beings must be in solidarity in encouraging law enforcement and efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Muardin family.

“A family head is the backbone as well as the pride of a family. Father’s death, means poverty, destitution and wounds that are always bleeding and boiling. The National Police Chief must form a special team to uncover indications of negligence that resulted in Muardin’s death as well as investigate indications of human rights violations,” he said.

For information, KOMPAK is an alliance of a number of student/youth organizations and individuals consisting of: Woha Mataram Student Association (HIPMAH), Donggo Mataram Student Association (HMDM), Wera Mataram Student and Student Association (HPMW), Madapangga Bima Mataram Student Association (HIMA-MPB), Monta Mataram Student Association (HMM-Mataram), Donggo Mataram Student Association (HIMASDOM), Soromandi Mataram Student Association (HIMSI), Manggelewa Mataram Student Association (IMAM-Mataram) and Woro Mataram Student Association (IMW- M).
