VIVA Lifestyle – Hypertension or high blood pressure is one of the conditions that is often worried about after consuming goat meat. Although delicious and appetizing, goat meat is also considered a source of danger that can pose a risk to blood pressure levels. Really?

Neurologist at Harapan Kita National Heart Center Hospital, dr. Eka Harmeiwaty, Sp.S, said that many factors cause hypertension, including diet. Not a few also finally mention that meat from goats can make blood pressure spike drastically so it needs to be avoided. However, Eka’s doctor dismissed this opinion and considered that it needed to be investigated more deeply.

“Do goat meat and durian cause hypertension? If goat meat causes hypertension, why don’t Arabs who eat goat meat have hypertension, it still needs research,” said doctor Eka in a webinar, Wednesday, August 31, 2022.

More deeply, according to doctor Eka, this opinion has not been proven from studies or research. Because, many people also eat goat meat but it doesn’t affect their blood pressure. Similarly, durian has not been scientifically proven to trigger hypertension. However, this fact is different from coffee intake.

“For coffee, the safe limit for caffeine consumption for adults is 400 milligrams or four cups of coffee per day,” he said.

Doctor Eka said that coffee intake needs to be limited because a number of studies have linked it to health effects, including hypertension. Moreover, excess coffee intake triggers a faster heart rate so that it has the potential for high blood pressure, even if only temporarily.
