Jakarta (ANTARA) – Acting Head of the Public Services Agency for Museums and Cultural Heritage, Ahmad Mahendra, said that many of the collections at the National Museum of Indonesia were still intact after being affected by the building fire.

“Preliminary information turns out that many are still intact, but of course there is damage,” said Mahendra in his statement broadcast in Jakarta, Monday (18/9) evening.

Mahendra said the identification team formed by curators and conservators was working to collect data on the affected cultural heritage collections.

Apart from that, the evacuation process will immediately be carried out in five burning rooms for which permits have been permitted by the National Police Headquarters Puslabfor.

Therefore, the National Museum of Indonesia is also trying to open communication channels with the cultural heritage conservation team to evacuate a number of collections affected after the building fire.

“Because the evacuation has started, we have opened communication with teams of experts who understand conservation and evacuation matters. We have also asked experts to help with handling our collections,” Mahendra said.

For the evacuation process, the National Museum of Indonesia has prepared a special room to evacuate a number of collections affected by the burning room.

Data regarding the number and type of collections that have been evacuated will be provided in the next press statement.
On the other hand, a total of 16 witnesses have been summoned by the police to investigate the cause of the fire in building A of the National Museum of Indonesia complex until this press statement was published.
