Complete Discussion – Concerning the Case of Intolerance in Bandar Lampung, the Chairman of the DPRD Assesses the City Government as Not Firm and Always ‘Disappearing’

Kupastuntas.co, Bandar Lampung – Chairman of the Bandar Lampung DPRD, Wiyadi, assessed City Government (Pemkot) Bandar LAmpang is not firm and always ‘disappears’ regarding cases of intolerance that occur in Bandar Lampung.

One example is the request for a permit for the house of worship of the Kemah Daud Christian Church (GKKD) Bandar Lampung congregation in Rajabasa Jaya sub-district, Bandar Lampung.

Wiyadi said that the issue of licensing regulations for places of worship had been explained, that village heads, sub-district heads and even mayors must be able to embrace and find solutions to the problem of licensing places of worship.

“However, in reality on the ground, I think all the ranks in the Bandar Lampung City Government, even the Mayor, always disappear or don’t want to be involved in the case of licensing places of worship in Rajabasa,” said Wiyadi, when confirmed, Monday (18/09/2023)

The chairman of the Bandar Lampung PDI Perjuangan DPC said that the city government should act fairly and firmly if there are problems related to places of worship for minorities.

“Regional officials up to the mayor should invite local residents to discuss it and explain it. If it is not possible regarding permits, convey what the regulations are, so that they do not differentiate between certain ethnicities, races and religions,” he explained.

Because Wiyadi continued, the State, in this case the local regional head, must be present to solve solutions related to religious problems in his area. “In fact, don’t ignore it when there is a problem. All residents must be embraced,” he said.

Previously, the Indonesian Christian Student Movement (GMKI) Lampung together with the Indonesian Christian Youth Movement (GAMKI) as well as the Kemah Daud Christian Church Congregation (GKKD) Bandar Lampung, held a peaceful demonstration in front of the Bandar Lampung City Government (Pemkot) office, Monday (18/09 /2023) morning.

This action was held to urge the Bandar Lampung City Government to provide strict attention and sanctions to cases of intolerance that occurred in Bandar Lampung.

Dwiki Simbolon as Head of the GMKI Bandar Lampung Branch, in his speech stated the importance of equal recognition and protection for places of worship of every religion.

“As a country that respects religious freedom, GMKI voices the importance of equal recognition and protection for places of worship of every religion,” said Dwiki.

In this case, Dwiki said, as an example of an incident involving a permit request, namely the permit for the Bandar Lampung GKKD Congregation’s house of worship which is located in the Rajabasa Jaya sub-district, Bandar Lampung City.
