TRIBUNJAMBI.COM, JAMBI – Hundreds of Jambi University (Unja) students held an action of solidarity and concern for the victims of traffic accidents by throwing flowers, Thursday (22/9/2022) afternoon.
The action, which was carried out in front of the Jambi University campus, involved several students and lecturers who were victims of a hit and run.
Tribunjambi.com’s observations in the field, hundreds of students wore a black dress code as a form of condolences to the victims.
Fikri Haikal, the Action Coordinator said that what the students did was a form of concern over the occurrence of traffic accidents.
“Today’s action is a form of solidarity and concern over the calamity that befell our friends, not only students but also the general public,” he said.
He said, according to data compiled from the Muaro Jambi BPS website that there were 50 deaths in 2018, 49 deaths in 2019, 46 deaths in 2020 due to traffic accidents.
According to him, this is a form of horizontal conflict created by greedy power holders. This is because thousands of vehicles have flooded the highway, which has exceeded its capacity.
He revealed that the promise of the Provincial Government to establish a special lane for trucks transporting Coal and the like would take a long time.
“So before the road is finished and then we just let the victims fall? Of course not,” he said.
The government with all its instruments is responsible for the blood that has been spilled, the lives that have been lost, air pollution, noise pollution along the Jambi-Muaro Bulian highway.
